Spiritual Crisis or emergency is when someone feels distressed or overwhelmed due to the natural process of psychological development becoming too intense or rapid for them to integrate properly.
Western medicines response to this has been to use medication to attempt to halt this process. Research and evidence from experiencers is now being used to show that outcomes can be improved if the process is allowed to continue in a more positive and optimistic attitude of the experiencers and their friends and family.
A crisis guide has been produced by ISEN in collaboration with the Spiritual Emergence Networks to provide information on how to manage the process of spiritual emergency.
