Join us for the first ever International #EmergingProud day of connection and innovation happening simultaneously in 8 countries all around the world.
#EmergingProud is ultimately a campaign about providing hope to people undergoing severe psychological distress that markedly interrupts or changes the course of their lives and their activities. The Western medical model of mental health has traditionally looked at the various processes that a person undergoes during marked distress as symptoms of a disease rather than a manifestation of response to individual trauma with transformative potential. The “Emerging Proud” movement looks at these processes as the emergence of a more authentic version of our authentic selves breaking through social, political and psychological barriers placed on us from early and documents and redefines the various stages of that emergence that come with “growing pains”/ looks at processes such as breaking down and mental distress not as a sign that we, or our brains, are broken but that we are in the midst of a difficult journey to ‘breakthrough’. It also identifies the wealth of wisdom and potential for growth and the realisation of deep purpose that psychological trauma can contain, which has helped many, so far, to shift pathological understandings. Sadly, the transformation potential of psychological crises into positive growth has never been examined by medical models.
The last 6 months has been a special journey; collating the personal stories of people who have had transformative experiences through breakdown, as documented through the unique narrative of their own emerging voices. This is a day for celebrating and cherishing their amazing stories but also to share and exchange ideas and form collaborations, no matter what your background.
Research is currently underway around the campaign to explore the value of ‘Communication and Health Promotion’ and the importance of ‘Social Safeness’ when sharing extreme human experiences, in order to establish new ways of understanding psychological distress that are more helpful than old materialistic concepts that the brain is broken or chemical imbalances are the sole cause.
The launch of International #EmergingProud day on Friday 12th May aims to build bridges between experiencers and professionals, in order that as many people as possible can have access to a range of holistic support solutions and ideas that meet a range of needs and backgrounds.
Trauma-informed models of care are increasingly widely referenced in Government documents in the US, Australia and the UK and they acknowledge the importance in clinical care of moving away from the dominant bio-medical paradigm of ‘What is wrong with you?’, towards a move empowering approach; ‘What has happened to you?’
Do you agree that this is a much-needed shift?

The day will include (see exact itinerary when booking event):
– Premiere London screening of the CRAZYWISE documentary
– WORLD premiere of the #EmergingProud film, which is a montage of ‘experiencer’ stories talking about their journey from crisis to transformation..
– Open Space event – the opportunity to have your voice heard
– Collaboration in cities all around the world to create a global emergence movement.
The main focus of the day is on building bridges between traditional medical and spiritual approaches to psychiatric care. Open-minded collaboration is key at this point as no-one singularly has the answer to how we can re-shape medical understandings and support the growing shift in perspective around trauma and emergence; Discussion and connecting around common threads is helpful to exploring and bringing fresh, new ideas to the table.
The ‘Open Space’ event is an active discussion around the topic of ‘Rethinking Madness’, where all parties can come together to discuss ideas for new initiatives, or bring new people to support activities already happening.
This is an international event, highlighting the value of a trans-cultural approach, and all countries taking part will call in with their feedback from the day to the central hub in London to share collective outcomes. The information on the action points happening in each country will be collated and shared in an international report with everyone involved.
