I have been working full-time as a therapist for over 15 years and have experience of working on a wide range of issues with individuals, couples and family groupings and with children and teenagers. I am fully qualified and professionally accredited as a psychotherapist and counsellor.
Most people who come to therapy are looking for support in a crisis; they need help to come to terms with feelings or events which are difficult, painful, perhaps bewildering. They may have come to notice familiar patterns in behaviour and relationships which occur over and over, despite conscious efforts to change.
I try to adopt a flexible, integrative approach to my work with each person, and to offer a safe, supportive space in which current difficulties can be explored and understood. Talking about personal issues and problems usually helps to alleviate and manage symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. Over time, the causes of difficulty can be clarified and inner conflicts resolved so that a person grows in confidence and creative energy.
I am interested not only in helping my clients to address present difficulties or recover from past trauma, but also to identify a sense of purpose and direction in life and to discover inner resources which offer potential for the future. In that sense, the crisis which brings a person to therapy may be seen as an opportunity.
